Introduction

Vlad Dracula who was Voivode of Wallachia, Romania in the fourteenth and fifteenth century BCE was in fact the saviour of Romania despite the nature of his horrible and shocking actions. A Voivode is an Old Slavic term that stood for warlord though the word progressively changed to denote the governor of a province (Adkins, 2000). Vlad Dracula was very well-known for his cruel behaviour and torturous behaviour which caused uproar over the years and until this day receives criticism towards his ruthlessness (Snell, 2014). Regardless of his brutal actions, it is still considered that he did not act without reason.

Vlad Dracula was leader of Wallachia for an approximate total of seven years over three different occasions. During this time, Vlad III was able to display himself as a man who abided by law and order and thus reduced lawlessness concerns; in addition he was also able to develop Wallachia into becoming a strong and independent country through many acts such as saving his region from the Turkish-led Ottoman Empire (Miller, Vlad the Impaler; Brief History, 2005).
